“I didn't choose to be a Gambling Addict"

One of my post back in 2009, and I decide to update it as i think it maybe helpful to some after this World Cup 2014

"I did not choose to become gambling addicts."

When I was young, I had many dreams. There were many times people ask me, my parents or relative or teachers or friends ask,
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

I really didn’t have elaborate dreams of success. I really didn't know what I want to do or achieved. Most of the time I just simply said normal routine of life lor .... work, families, and a future of dignity and respect.

But no one has ever ask me ,
“Do you want to be a gambling addict when you grow up?”

I didn’t choose to become a GAMBLING addict, and now I am told ... that I cannot choose to stop being a gambling addict..... huh ... wtf ???

I was told I have the disease of addiction. They even shown me the American Medical stuff ... DSM IV manual ..... trying to convince me ....

What ?? ...... then I was told again I am not responsible for having this disease, but I am responsible for my recovery

I thought having learned that I am just like those sick people with chronic disease and that there is a way of recovery, I can move away from blaming circumstances—or myself —and into living the solution.

I told people around me when they start to attack me on my past again ... "I didn’t choose addiction, but I can choose recovery." .... they all said bullshit you.... you are just pure greedy, unrealistic fool who can't put your feet on the ground, dreaming of winning big and having an easy life through gambling .... this is pure lazy, and lies to cover all your wrong doings !!!

What say you ....... ??? What do you think .....

No matter what they say ..... But one thing for sure ... right from the beginning ....

Hi recovery brother, I didn't choose to be an addict too but before I knew it, IM already an addict! WTF!!

Others dont understand what we are facing and going thru..

The looked from relatives, friends and those people whom I have hurt before, no words can describe when I see them, Gave me a bloody hole so that I can jump inside.. Im really powerless, I used to be SO POWERFUL during my gambling days, sounds familiar??

Now, I choose recovery and I clearly choose it, I didnt choose to be an addict..

No one will TOTALLY understand unless they had been through it... Not just gambling... Can be many things else in life.

I was never greedy and always generous to many people around me... It was only that one casual visit to the casino to "see see look look and experience" that I got into the trap.

The usual thing happened: The vicious cycle of hoping to win back my losses... And eventually I lost all my six-figure savings and got into debt.

I too didn't choose to be a gambling addict. I was just curious about the it. Things just happened the way it is; I went to a place I shouldn't have visited. Every gambler's situation is unique though.

After what I'd experienced, I stopped bringing local and foreign friends to the mega skyscrapper or resort which I'm not proud of. The government and most other Singaporeans and even I myself in the past before the incident was proud of or neutral about.

These blood sucking establishment that capitalise on human nature's weaknesses has caused much problems which most people won't understand unless they've seen and experience it for themselves.

WE DIDN'T CHOOSE TO BE A GAMBLING ADDICT!

My goal is to fix my debt issue and eventually volunteer and start helping people in similar situation because I really know how it feels like to be living in denial and stress and the depression it can lead to!

In recovery,

If main goal is to FIX your debts ..... then what happen, if you have successfully fix it in time to come....

What causes the debts??

GAMBLING ??

OR

The Gambling addict ??

Who should we fix ???

DEBTS ??

OR

GAMBLING ??

OR

THE Addict, himself ??

Lose Money ..

But don't lose your family ..

20K is alot of money .....

I know how you feel , really ..

At times, just one moment of impulse or a short period of chasing the loses and all is gone ...

gone by the wind ..

BUT the positive side of you ..
"pick yourself up, and start from scratch ..."

But sir, please do make changes ...

Nothing will change if nothing changes ...

You may ask me what need to change??

Look into a mirror, and you have the answer !!

Every day is a new day, new chance for us to make it right...

One day @ a Time

加油!不要放弃。

Keep looking up.

changes takes time and most importantly don't rush.

Even if we change, no one will believe us ...

But keep doing the next right thing and one day they will see our changes .... slowly but surely.

never felt dishearten as you are not alone !!

Take care and keep in touch
