Simple Routine that helps my Recovery

In my recovery.... the following routine help me alot of the past 2years..

Perhaps you could find 1-2 useful skills that could help in your recovery too.

1) For those that i have harmed, and money that beyond my ability to return......

I will help them with a prayer of blessings on a daily basis.

2) For all the things that I can't change ......

I will learn to accept them and have the courage to change the things I can...

AND THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE IS TO CHANGE MY ATTITUDE IN LIFE AND NEVER TO RESPONSE IN ANGER.

3) For those things that I desire and unable to get....4D AND TOTO that I missed..

I will stay grateful and contented with what I have.

4) For the excess "luggages" that im unable to let go... guilt, shame..

I will see thru it and learn to let go abit at a time... by focusing on just tday.

Before I could repair or repay anything, or make any amends..

I must first repent and reconstruct myself..

I must be well..
I must be happy...
I must pick myself up again...

No more quick fix solutions...
No more response in anger...

It takes time....

And must be from the heart...
Not for the show...

And it must be for yourself. . !!!

Maybe entire life .... and yet may not be able to change.....

Only I, myself, can benefit from the change .....

People around me will still judge me for what i done in the past and not what I have done in recovery ....

They will continue to do so ..
bcos the pain is always there in them ...

Regardless of what I am trying to change ......
They will still see me the way I was .. esp when things go wrong or if you have make another mistake...

BUT the fact that they are still by my side .. speaks volume.

Gambling And Depression

Although not an addiction, depression is commonly associated with problem gambling.

Depression can both result from problem gambling and exacerbate it. The problem gambler may experience a strong desire to gamble during times of depression.

Symptoms of depression include:

1. Depressed mood most of the day
2. Diminished interest in pleasure
3. Significant weight changes
4. Difficulty in sleeping
5. Fatigue or loss of energy
6. Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
7. Diminished ability to think or concentrate

Alcohol or drug use may also occur in conjunction with gambling. After consuming excessive alcohol or drugs the problem gambler is drawn to gamble. After losing money gambling, the gambler feels an urge to consume alcohol or drugs.

AM I A COMPULSIVE GAMBLER ??

1. Did you ever lose time from work due to gambling?

2. Has gambling ever made your home life unhappy?

3. Did gambling ever affect your reputation?

4. Have you ever felt remorse after gambling?

5. Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financial difficulties?

6. Did gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency?

7. After losing, did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses?

8. After a win, did you have a strong urge to return and win more?

9. Did you often gamble until your last dollar was gone?

10. Did you ever borrow to finance your gambling?

11. Have you ever sold anything to finance your gambling?

12. Were you reluctant to use gambling money for normal expenditures?

13. Did gambling make you careless of yourself or your family?

14. Have you ever gambled longer than you had planned?

15. Have you ever gambled to escape worry and trouble?

16. Have you ever committed or considered committing an illegal act to finance gambling?

17. Has gambling caused you to have difficulty in sleeping?

18. Have arguments, disappointment, or frustrations caused you to gamble?

19. Have you had an urge to celebrate any good fortune with a few hours of gambling?

20. Have you ever considered self-destruction as a result of your gambling?

12 Step Recovery Program

1) We admitted we were powerless over gambling - that our lives had become unmanageable.

2) Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to a normal way of thinking and living.

3) Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of this Power of our own understanding.

4) Made a searching and fearless moral and financial inventory of ourselves.

5) Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6) Were entirely ready to have these defects of character removed.

7) Humbly asked God (of our understanding) to remove our shortcomings.

8) Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9) Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10) Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

11) Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12) Having made an effort to practice these principles in all our affairs, we tried to carry this message to other compulsive gamblers.
